Bodo Sperlein – Sculptural Elegance with Timeless Clarity

What defines a Bodo Sperlein creation? A distinctive balance of clarity and sensuality, modern restraint and timeless form. His work speaks a language that is at once understated and bold – sculptural in presence, but always purposeful.

Named to the AD 100 – Architectural Digest’s list of the world’s most important designers for 2025 – Bodo Sperlein is a visionary with a truly international voice.

A Vast and Multifaceted Creative Repertoire

“The world is full of ideas – you simply have to see them,”

Bodo Sperlein once said in an interview. And fortunately for us, he sees them everywhere – and brings them to life in the form of lighting, tableware, silver objects, rugs, textiles, and furniture.

The German-born designer, who operates his London-based creative agency, is known for his profound respect for craftsmanship and brand heritage. His particular strength lies in reinterpreting historic houses and heritage brands with renewed desirability – creating designs that honour tradition while embracing innovation.

Craft Meets Concept – From Vienna to Tokyo

Sperlein’s collaborations read like a roll-call of international excellence:

  • For Lobmeyr, the Viennese glass icon, he reimagined the Alpha glassware collection with a hand-engraved moiré pattern, and designed the Script lighting series – a family of wall, table and pendant lights whose gilded or silvered arms recall typographic flourishes.

  • His ornate table centrepieces for Jarosinski & Vaugoin are handcrafted in one of Europe’s oldest silver workshops.

  • For Coordonné in Spain, he created monumental artisan wall coverings – more mural than wallpaper.

  • His “Rhythm” candleholder series for Mexican silversmith TANE showcases an architectural dialogue between movement and material.

A Passion for Fine Materials and Lasting Beauty

Sperlein’s affinity for materials – particularly porcelain, silver, stone and glass – can be traced back to his product design studies at University of the Arts London, where he first worked extensively with ceramics.

When he established his own studio in 2000, he focused on porcelain – producing what would become some of his most beloved collections. His “Black Forest” and “Gold Forest” series for Dibbern are among the brand’s international bestsellers. He has also created ceramic collections for Lladró (Spain) and Nikko (Japan).

Egetemeier × Bodo Sperlein – A Shared Vision of Timeless Design

In 2024, we proudly partnered with Bodo Sperlein for a joint exhibition at our Nymphenburger Straße showroom in Munich. The title – “Zeitlos” (Timeless) – captured the essence of his aesthetic: modern, refined, and emotionally enduring.

Among the highlights:

  • Silva Marble – a sculptural series of marble tables, each a statement piece. The bases feature concentric discs of marble, creating a striking interplay of rhythm and mass.

  • Contourline Wood – a series inspired by the organic lines of early 20th-century Art Nouveau. Its signature S-curve silhouette recurs throughout Sperlein’s work, offering a quiet nod to nature and movement.

Sperlein’s designs reinvent furniture without ever compromising functionality – poetic, but grounded in use.
